When painting the landscape, the artist needs a variety of the color green in his/her arsenal in order to express the time of day, give the painting a sense of place, show the weather conditions, as well as give the viewer a proper sense of what is near and what is far away in the distance.
Having a solid grasp of working with a range of greens allows us to be truthful, give a sense of the poetry of light and also allows room to be inventive. I want to share this knowledge with you. I have studied and painted greens my whole painting life and have found the color green to be a fun and challenging concept. I cannot show you everything that I’ve come to understand about this color in a 2-day workshop, but I can give you a solid base that will allow you to better understand and pursue greens effectively in your own paintings. A painter doesn’t need a whole arrangements of tubed greens on their palette. I’m going to show you how to mix a variety of harmonic greens using a basic palette of colors along with when and how to use them effectively.
After a demo on day one, students will work to produce color charts showing various rows of greens. The rows are charted in a logical way to help you understand the concepts of using them and they will be a great source of reference moving forward on your own. On day two, David will paint a demo painting using a variety of greens and then students will work to produce a painting. We will look at and discuss the work before the end of each day along with a question and answer period.
Beginner to experienced painters are welcome.
