Clark Island Preserve
This retreat includes painting sessions at wonderful locations in Spruce Head, Tenants Harbor, Port Clyde, Owls Head and Rockland Maine. Two painting locations each day!
The Craig Nair Inn by the Sea in Spruce Head Maine will be our home for the week. With beautiful views of the Clark Island Preserve right outside our door, we will spend some of our time painting and exploring this fascinating spot. It is one of those rare islands connected by a causeway with rocky outcrops, sandy beaches, tide pools and 4 miles of trails. The old granite quarry on Clark Island is a local swimming hole and it is magical.
Nearby is Tenants Harbor, Port Clyde and Owls Head Maine. Each area offers the artist a variety of subject matter for painting and exploration. The town of Rockland with its vibrant gallery scene is just 20 minutes away. The Farnsworth Museum and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art are all part of Rockland’s eclectic art scene.
This is going to be an amazing week of painting immersion in an extraordinary location. This workshop will be run like a retreat and offers you the opportunity to paint-the-day-away with us, along with your fellow artists, standing side-by-side or close by. We know where all the good painting spots are within a 3-10 mile radius. Some of these painting locations go back to when David painted the area with Charles Movalli during workshops with the master. Instruction during the week are the critiques, show-and-tell sessions on Friday and Sunday and some good overall nuggets of wisdom and inspiration given throughout the retreat. Students are always welcome to watch David & Pam paint, but are encouraged to open their own paint box and seize the miracle of the day. Each day will be an opportunity to venture not far from our base to paint at several different locations and be inspired by the beauty that surrounds us and by each other, as we work to infuse our paintings with a sense of light and atmosphere. This is an opportunity to follow your passion for painting and see what the week brings. It’s going to be a fun week of turning out paintings and enjoying the camaraderie. Day 4 Sunday - Spruce Head & Owls Head Maine / Group Critique & Show-and-Tell
Day 5 Monday - OPTIONAL- Farewell Breakfast and then painting at Clark Island Preserve (extended morning of painting for those participants who wish to.
NOTE: Sunday evening accommodations and Monday morning breakfast and painting is optional. The Craig Nair Inn is offering discounted rooms for retreat participants for either a 4 or 5 night stay. Be sure to tell the inn that you are part of the David Lussier retreat when booking your accommodations.
Each day there will be a discussion about dinner possibilities as a group.
